BIOMERIDIAN Machine

Recently, at a conference, I had myself checked via the BIOMERIDIAN machine (the test was performed by the company's representative). This machine measures the electrical impedance corresponding to 14 organs/systems in the body. Of all the machines that I had researched, this one made the most sense to me. The representative was a very personable lady and performed a simple procedure of checking my Acupoints (on both hands and feet) with a noninvasive wand-like tool.

My results? According to the machine, I presented with normal values for 6 of the 14 organs/systems. The remainder showed that I was either Excess or Deficient to some degree. Most curious to me was a 65% deficient (Mid) respiratory system. Now after a year of extensive studying, with little time to exercise, I could have believed a massively deficient cardiovascular system, but respiratory? I realize that Toronto air quality is poor, but this seems extreme for a young, apparently healthy person!

Even patient care in conventional medicine is suffering from the overuse of scientifically proven diagnostic machines.  Take a look at this inspiring TED video on the value of a doctor's touch presented by Dr. Abraham Verghese.

I'll end with this quote that sums up this issue very well.  "The childish faith in the magic of technology is one reason the American public has tolerated inhumane doctoring."  The Lost Art of Healing: practicing compassion in medicine by Dr. Bernard Lown, MD.

I too would be interested to know what the lady tells you. It seems unclear as to how they came up with those values. Did they take into account the air quality? Looking forward to hearing more about this. Great blog site by the way!

Unfortunately, the Biomeridian is not a machine I would feel confident using in my practice. As of yet, I have not found anything that can replace a thorough examination.

I just had my son tested with the BioMeridian machine and found out EVERY single system in his body is inflamed. We have taken him to doctors for years for a runny nose and all they ever did was prescribe an allergy medication that would never work. We also got an allergy test along with the biomeridian and found out there is NOTHING he is allergic to. He is just extremely toxic and his body is unable to detoxify itself properly. We got him on the supplements needed to bring his systems back into balance and he is feeling excellent! He was also starting to develop facial and vocal tics that stopped after being on the supplements. Nine years of seeing doctors that did absolutely nothing for him, he is now a happier, healthier boy after only a few weeks. Thank you BioMeridian, I would recommend this testing to anyone!

I realize this comment is quite late, but I just stumbled across your blog. Great to see someone so thoughful writing about naturopathic school!
I got the BioMeridian in late 2007 and started testing people on it. I do believe that it provides a good assessment of the various organ systems of the body, and is often surprisingly accurate.
But I felt that it superceded my naturopathic education, and I felt like I was discounting that every time I used it. I haven't tested anyone in months, and I don't feel comfortable doing so.
So why did I get it in the first place? A lack of patients and a lack of revenue made me desperate and clouded my judgment. It was a very expensive lesson and one I don't wish on any of my colleagues. Some use it as an additional assessment tool, and I've heard that it comes in quite handy with certain patients. I just consider it very expensive and unnecessary. But who knows? Maybe I'll pick it up again if a patient is not responding to treatment for some reason.
My two cents. Best of luck in the clinic and congratulations on coming up to the end of your third year!

Personally, I was tested with the machine over 4 months. I wanted to give myself the time to see if any real results would come from it. I had heard others say it didn't work, only to find that, when questioned, they failed to take the necessary supplements. I would be different.

I was found deficient in all areas (weak), and was told to take only five supplements to address the core areas of concern. After one month I found good results (I was very good about taking my supplements and nothing else).

After the fourth month I am happy to say I am in balance, but more than that, I feel great! Regardless of what the test says, I FEEL great - not because I see it on a report. In fact, my lifestyle had been based on being sluggish and tired all the time, and I have to adapt now to this new vigor. Even my friends and family are saying I have a renewed energy.

That being said, I think a person's skepticism, influence, and discipline in taking supplements correctly, all has something to do with how they react.

So, decide for yourself. I absolutely recommend having the test, but only if you will follow the supplement regimen.

(Noticed moderating is turned "On" with this blog, so this may not even be seen if a biased blog author)

I have sadly had experience with this machine and after disasterous results found a review by Dr. Weil saying don't waste your time. After 10 months of feeding funds to the homeopath whom I put my trust in, have learned that everything she told me was false. The results were that she almost killed me and recommended I give the supplements she gave me to my dog and she killed him. I had parasites, with no discription by the homeopath in dispute. After 10 months learned that I had tapeworms up to 21 ft long, round worms, tongue worms, protozoa, amoebas, and flukes in my system. She could not tell me what I had but gave me things to kill them and it never affected them, only me. Finding someone reputable who had previously used the Bio Meridian machine and gave it up because it didn't work, was about to kill the worms in 7 days. The worms did not come from my dog, I had the worms long before I ever bought the dog. She told me I was allergic to about every food on the universe so I spent 10 mo eating oatmeal, eggs, nuts, almond milk, chicken and some vegetables. She told me to remove my duve' because I was allergic to it. After she literally about killed me and would have had I followed her directions to take two capsules of a remedy called "Clear" that I told her I was reacting to. She told me it was doing me a lot of good and I should wait 10 days and take two. I was leary and took one. My body shutdown and I struggled to breathe. I was able to take something else I had to conteract the effects and made it through the night. Later visiting her she told me if I had taken two, it would have killed me. The follow-up combined, Dr.,homeopath, kinesiologist, I went to discovered I was not allergic to any of it. The only thing I was allergic to was nickel, red wine, and worm poop--and I was loaded with it. If you are basically healthy and lacking in some vitamin, you may get help with balancing nutrition, but if you really need help, don't trust anyone with this machine--it doesn't work. Rhonda

i really believe in the bi-meridian diagnosis for parasites. I would like to know if there is anyone in the hamilton/burlington area that uses it; i recently went to richmond hill to get tested. the results from the biomeridian were in sinc with the bio-resonance technology.

At the advice of my chiropractor, I scheduled Biomeridian testing for food sensitivity. My first test was about six weeks ago and just had my second test today. I was "prescribed" four supplements to take daily. I continued to take three of them as the fourth upset my stomach. After six weeks, the test showed significant improvement, I feel better and have even lost a few pounds.

I think the moral of the story is that you must have a trusted, educated professional administering the test. It is only a tool that should be used by a healthcare provider to make decisions, not a cure-all. Not everything works for everyone.

I was suffering from candida a few years back. Lost 60 pounds. Got so weak I couldn't work or even drive a car. Went to 5 different doctors who thought all I had was a rash so they gave me some topical ointment and took my money. The bio-meridian not only tests but also treats. That combined with some rather uncomfortable colonics saved my life.

This test saved my life. The medical system "kills" 220,000 unsuspecting victims each year. Like every test and every treatment, BioMeridian does not work for everyone. At least it does not kill! And when one is compliant and a little patient, one could experience a miracle. I would highly recommend it. As far is Dr. Andrew Weil is concerned, I have read his review. He claims the BioMeridian is used by doctors to sell vitamins. Interesting comment since he sells about everything under the sun, including cheap, synthetic vitamins I would not feed my hamster. On his website he makes recommendations based on a few general questions. Not exactly scientific. But of course he is an authority on everything alternative.

I am A RN, DOM, AP, LMT. I have the Biomeridian MSA and have been around others using it. They use it to sell supplements and I have always been very sceptic. Some are better, some are not from the body having to process all the pills they are sold. I found the best for a patient is to check their diet...flour, milk, fried foods. Eating a clean diet will clear up almost all cases. I use my MSA for assessment. I then do lymphatic drainage, Cranialsacral, and Acupuncture using the Light beam Generator. This all gently detoxes the body. After one a week for 4-6 weeks, the patient is better with more energy and sleeping better.

I have to agree about A. Weil. The so called Dr. never has a straight answer for anything. That being said I am being tested with the Bio Meridian machine this week. I believe it is a great non-invasive diagnostic tool. I look forward to finding out where my weaknesses are and I will do my own research on the supplements I will be given to improve my health. I will report back in a month or so to let you all know the results.

My husband and I are both chiropractors and have been tested using the Biomeridian. We saw such amazing results that we are in the process of going through training and getting a machine ourselves! We were sending our patients an hour away to get tested and they all saw such dramatic health improvements that we thought it was about time we started utilizing the machine in our office. The protocols we personally followed included introducing a clean diet, eliminating specific sources of toxicity in our lives, heavy metal detoxification, and individual supplement recommendations. I have never felt better. This all builds off of having a healthy, functioning nervous system. The reason I personally am going through training is because I believe using the Biomeridian helps the practitioner focus in on the specific needs of the patient. It is up to the practitioner to make the proper recommendations, and up to the patient to comply. I fully acknowledge that if the practitioner is not properly trained with the machine, does not have an extensive education in true health, or has less than honorable intentions, there will be negative outcomes. However, that is true with all things when it comes to health care, not just this one machine. By focusing on the person as whole, and not simply treating symptoms, we are helping people achieve new levels of health. I am very excited to have this additional tool to help reach that goal. As a patient, I fully encourage those interested to find a practitioner they trust and get tested. Cheers! Libby

I had the BioMeridian test done last week; right away I implemented the recommended diet and supplements. The diet consist in, no sugars, no wheat, no dairy, no red meat, and obviously no junk food. I’m loving it. I have many food alternatives. After a week, I feel great, with energy and desire to do things. Needless to say I also drink plenty of water, have plenty of rest, do some exercise, manage my stress and read my Bible. The BioMeridian test alone is not enough. At the end of the day, I’m responsible for my own wellbeing, not a practitioner or a test.

It's important to respect and trust the individual using the machine: I DO. I wouldn't trust a child to drive my car, but I trust my husband - I wouldn't trust anyone to drive my car until or unless qualified. Same goes with this machine. When they combine their medical knowledge with homeopathics it's a wonderful thing.

Years ago myself and my husband had biomeridian testing. We were skeptical but I had health issues that I couldn't get addressed by my medical doctors and at the suggestion of a friend I thought what do I have to lose. I located a practitioner a few hours from where I lived that did the testing and also was a regional instructor with previous medical lab research experience. Because I was skeptical I didn't tell the practitioner of any of my health concerns, only that I was curious about the testing because a friend had recommended it. I had brought recent lab tests with me on the day of testing to compare with after the biomeridian testing but didn't let the practitioner know I had them.

I was totally blown away by the results. The practitioner pretty much nailed my issues down and furthermore, afterwards when I showed the practitioner my lab tests they nearly matched identical.

My husband who went with me to my testing hadn't originally planned on being tested but after seeing my results decided to get tested. We were both written suggestions for supplements to take and we both followed the plan 100% and we both experienced a phenomenal turnaround in our health.

Unfortunately the practitioner that tested us retired and we are looking for a new practitioner to continue on with.

I can't say enough good about how much this testing helped us.

Where are you located? (Post from sept 9)... I see a good naturopath in the Buffalo, NY area. Let me know if you are interested.

I recent entered a wellness center in Pennsylvania. I am the skeptic among skeptics. I agreed to the testing with an open mind. The testing, if honest with yourself and the feedback from the testing, allows you to determine the course of action with supplements and phenolics. My examiner reviewed each of the highest rated recommendations and there symptoms associated with them and they were surprisingly accurate. I am currently taking all my supplements as prescribed and was told to make adjustments according to my overall wellbeing.
If you felt like I did for so long and healthy diet and exercise isn't working, what do you have to lose besides a couple bucks. It is non invasive and ultimately you get to have a say in the course of action, and lastly it has been used for thousands of years, maybe there is something to it?? Western medicine is good to an extent but sometimes simple and natural is what our bodies need, after all look at what we do to them!

Is there anyone out there that has heard of Morgellons or like symptoms? I wonder if this machine would be able to pick it up and tell the doc what to use to help with the disease.

Morgelleons is really a form of Lyme disease, find an ILADS doctor in your. Area off the ILADS website

Morgelleons syndrome is not a form of Lyme disease but a Lyme aware doctor should still know how to treat it

This testing is the best thing that ever happened to me. My doctor would not test me for allergies. I was having major sneezing spells. My Co workers and friends would say "are u dieing" when I had these spells. A friend that I skate with told me to go see this lady; she can test you and it doesn't involve needles. I knew that the company health plan covered this type of thing so I would give it a try. I was a total skeptic even though it came from a reliable person. It went for the testing that took about 1hour. It was easy simple and actually fun since I got to see the screen as she was testing me. Totally non invasive. Turned out i was sensitive to anything made from sugarcane. OMG!!!!. I was a pretty healthy eater before I went, but it's amazing how many things have sugar cane in them. I decided I would try for 2 weeks and go totally sugarcane free. Within 2 days I noticed my eyes were more wide open. Within a month I had lost some weight (I was already a fairly thin person never any weight problems. My skin cleared up. I always had zits. When I was 21 my doc said I would grow out of them; but they continued to show up until I had the testing done at age 33. Because I had such success many family members went and there friends all getting the same benefits. I only went back a second time for a check up and she said every looks good; you don't need to come back. Turns out she was in the medical profession and started taking nutrition courses and now she just does this full time. I had to wait 3 months to see her. I understand why. She gets all her clients by word of mouth; that tells you how many people she has helped. My tested was done in the Frederick st mall in Kitchener . I moved away 6 years ago so not sure if she is still there or not. One of the best things I have ever done!!!!!

I had a meridian testing done twice 2 months apart. First time with many unbalanced issues. I had her test my hormones for pregnancy. First time, she said No you are not pregnant. 2nd time , for point check,, I had 5 out of the 6 areas that came up as balance. I had been having hormonal inbalances before this. I had her check again for hcg in the area she could test. Two areas showed my hcg was up, indicating possible pregnancy. I would've only been on day 23 of monthly cycle. I did home test on day 28, showed negative. So, has anyone else experienced this ? Am I crazy to think I could be pregnant? I will see if I am, or not in days ahead. Its just very interesting to why did hcg even show up in her tests this month.. Thank You in advance

I was recently diagnosed with a disease that gave me a lot of blood clots, and caused my liver to fail. I got sent to a specialized surgery center and they told me I needed a complete multi-organ internal transplant 50-50 chance to live and then auto immunosuppressants for the rest of my life. I am 31 years of with a 2 year old daughter. This was not an acceptable answer. I ended finding some Dr's who use this machine across the country who came highly recommended. In 4 months I have gone to being bed ridden on morphene to being on the best shape of my life doing headstands and playing with my daughter every day. When I first got tested all my numbers were poor in the red save one or two. I just got tested again and they are ALL GREEN. I feel amazing and the only people who discredit this great device seem to be those who haven't used it, or were skeptical and didn't follow through/had a poor dr/tech doing it.

For my this is a literal life changer and all my "western" doctors are shocked by the miracle that has happened. So don't discredit it , just find a highly recommend place to get it done.

The previous Anonymous comment is another classic example of how the "Machine" was the least important part of the process. A good doctor who can approach health problems from a different perspective is far more important than any machine.

My homeopath uses it and it saved my baby girls life where 5 paeds failed. My daughter had multiple severe food sensitivities and I had MCS both treated successfully by my homeopath because of the machine. It is a valuable piece of equipment but needs to be used properly. I find the parasite story strange because my doc has always been able to tell me exactly which parasite members of my family might have and exactly how to treat successfully.

Interesting comments here. If one bothers to look into Dr Weil's practice closely he's nothing more than a self proclaimed guru. I call him an excellent business man... period. You don't need a business man to promote innate health. He does however have one good article out there (online) on breathing exercises (123). Not much good for anything else-my experience/opinion. Have met him in person and he's not even a nice man. And I have found his recommendations to be profit geared (his own of course), comments often unfounded - misguided, sells very expensive products (with not so healthy ingredients) and leading folks down the hippie dippie trail of product marketing.
Now for the Biomeridian: In 2010 I had a gold standard routine surgery & implant that went catastrophically wrong. Within 2 wks serious infection (unk to my md), excruciating pain (unk to my md), metabolic instability (unk to my md) , severe vital sign issues (unk to my md), falls, unbelievable systemic weakness, multi-system deterioration - wasting, tanking labs, countless hospitalizations (without resolutions) and 8 months post op became partially paralyzied (also with unk etilogy to my mds) . Medical mainstream had little to nothing - no testing standards nor anything for what had happened. They offered lil to nothing to contain the catastrophic effects created in the OR. Tried everything - everywhere - saw countless drs (various specialties-many referrals) and even the Mayo Clinic. In 2012 medical mainstream told me to go home. Said "nothing more we can do for you". Out of all those places and all the testing = limited answers and no resolution!!! Felt as if I was dying literally and daily. So much suffering, time, $ wasted on mainstream drs & testing. This nurse found the Biomeridian to be right on target and it noted almost everything accordingly to how I felt and any - every supplement (Standard Process) suggested did exactly what it was suppose to do & surpassed my expectations. And more importantly had no adverse effects. Excellent tool- my opinion.
Back to basics is where medicine needs to return. The body works as a unit and needs to be treated as such when ailing. The Biomeridian is an excellent tool - guide (like with anything) in the right hands serves a greater purpose. Was instrumental in me regaining health (during and after implant removal). Haven't needed to be hospitalized once since meeting my md/nd. I truly believe would not be alive and healing today were it not for it and my brilliant md/nd. For those wondering... yes labs and scans were used to monitor progress just to be sure desired responses were being achieved. Life is all about checks and balances. Excellent tool in my book. We would have healthier nation if we used it and focused on true nutrition. Humbly-
Yours in health , Rose RN, CHC

Karen Barnes N.D. Has the Burlington Naturopathic Clinic in Burlington. She does bio-meridian testing and is absolutely AMAZING! We have moved up to Kincardine and I am looking for a new Naturopathic doctor in this area who also does bio-meridian testing. Until I find one, I will travel the 2.5 hours to see her!

I’m surprised at all the negative comments. I own a machine myself, and a looking for a newer used model, as I find it an incredible tool in the right hands. My sister also has one, and has had a doctor come to her clinic to get himself and his young daughter tested. Suitably impressed, he went back to his practice, and told the other doctors that they should swallow their pride and go see her. She has had people travel 800 km to see her, as her recommendations helped when traditional treatments did nothing. However, I agree that key to any treatment is whether a person follows the protocol plus uses common sense with their lifestyle and diet. So much is dependent on the person, but I agree there are good and bad practitioners in any modality.

I have had both good and bad experiences relating to medical history. As an example, my 3 ½ yr old daughter had a terrible farm accident, and if left to the local doctors would have died. (The primary doctor was actually dismissed subsequently). By the time she was transferred to a distant hospital with medivac, we were told she had about 12 hours left to live. Thankfully, the skillful doctors there were able to save her, though she remained in hospital for six weeks and is horribly scarred for life due to the mishandling of her injury.

My husband’s first wife died after years of being disabled and eventually bed-ridden with a disease that could have been treated naturally. They tried alternative medicine, costing thousands of dollars, but she ended up reverting to the typical prescription drugs for that condition. They eventually killed her, as evidenced by the fact he could apply in the class-action lawsuit launched against the pharmaceutical company. Had she seen a reputable practitioner there would have been some clear indicators of the direction she needed to take. So sad for her, but then, I wouldn’t be married to my honey today!

In my opinion, naturopaths are generally better to see for health issues than most pharmaceutically-trained medical doctors. However, as in all other modalities, it also depends on the person. My husband was seeing an ND who was a wonderful, lovely person, but was put on a protocol that we discovered later was dangerous, and could have caused permanent damage. However, his family doctor has him on meds that are causing damage, and could possibly lead to cancer eventually, so which is worse? If I had my choice, I would far rather visit an ND (or other health practitioner) than someone who doesn’t look for the cause - who doesn’t take into consideration a person’s body, soul and spirit, but just treats symptoms superficially with drugs (or supplements) that don’t address the root problem.

The argument that the Biomerdian Machine is used just to sell people supplements, & their products, etc. is a poor one at best, and quite frankly illogical. Any type of doctor that you go to whether Allopathic, Naturopathy, and so on write prescriptions, and sell other products to help you heal. If someone actually thinks they can heal many diseases and conditions without the above why even bother to go to any doctor in the 1st place? Why get any type of test to determine what the imbalance might be?
In the right hands with correct training, the Biomerdian Machine is an invaluable tool that has helped many people where other tests have failed and/or in many cases found the issue where regular medicine is unable too. I know, as it helped me where Allopathic medicine could not.

Your skepticism about the accuracy of these machines is well founded, Dr. Mountain. I highly recommend this article to anyone considering biomeridian testing. It goes into detail about how the test works and what it actually measures... Not to be confused with the biomeridian project, which is actual scientific testing, albeit related to the environment...

I was very skeptical when I first went to a Naturopath for chronic bronchitis, which the M.D.'a couldn't cure. Three months after the test, I was completely healed of bronchitis and never got it again. I have since become a Classical Naturopath and have been sgoing Biomeridian testing for 1 years with amazing results. No longer a skeptic. I agree that you need a very good technician to run the test. Ask for references of those that have been tested and call them.
